Since the Middle Ages, taverns have been a warm and friendly place for folks to come together for a pint and a plate of local fare.

Welcome to The Merchant, Toronto's traveller's tavern. Scroll down for a look at our menu and a list of our cask-aged cocktails, craft beers and fine wines, plus an array of mouthwatering plates of local fare. A premium coffee and tea service is also available and we even have root beer on tap for those who have to stay sharp until, at least, 5:00 pm.

Our hours and location are listed on the right (unless you're on your phone, then keep scrolling past the menus). Our reservation program — and, yes, we take large and small groups — is also "crafted" to suit your needs. It's why we don't take online reservations. We believe that a real person will honour the details of your work and life milestones with far more care than some algorithm.

Our story is simple. Not long ago, restaurateur Greg Garson looked at the dining options in Toronto's Financial District and decided what the neighbourhood needed wasn't another overpriced "sex 'n status" hotspot where an appreciation for good food and drink would take a backside to corporate power plays. The Merchant is a place where memorable dining experiences are served up by a knowledgable wait staff in checkered shirts that look as fresh and friendly as a Doris Day & Rock Hudson classic. Consider us the place where people from all walks of life (lawyers, plumbers, coders, stockbrokers and opera singers — our neighbourhood has them all) come to feel welcomed.

Our front of house is led by Ana Cunha, Assistant General Manager, and Ciaran McCarron, our Late Night Tavern Leader. You'll find this duo working the floor assisting with service, answering phones, running food, pouring beer, bussing tables —whatever it takes! Both Ana and Ciaran are also co-owners in the concept.

Everyone who travels life's long, hard road needs a spot to unwind and partake. We hope you'll let us take care of you.
